My Work In Progress

I have to admit, my blog has been gathering a bit of dust lately. I haven't been as diligent as I should be -- my writing energies have been focused elsewhere. In addition to the stories I've written for StoryRhyme.com, since last August, I've written half a dozen short stories for adults (not the triple X variety, Heaven forbid. They just don't fit our StoryRhyme.com target audience). My major writing distraction lately has been my work-in-progress young adult novel. After writing the first 22,000 words and having Husband gently tell me that it blew small chunks, I started over from scratch and am about 13 pages in. (And this is in addition to my day job that pays the bills -- sometimes.) Why an otherwise sane person would want to be a writer is beyond me. At times it's a cursed affliction; other times it's sublime wonder and creative outbursts. It disturbs my sleep and makes me feel distracted, like I've got one foot in reality and one in the clouds.

My apologies in advance to Husband and our dear son. If you're talking to me and I'm looking at you nodding and then blurt out something random that has nothing to do with our actual conversation, it's because I'm thinking of a story line or rearranging a sentence in my head and I'm quickly trying to cover for this by taking a stab at what my response should be. Please don't take it personally, it's just my affliction...
