Behind the Story: Dresden at the Giraffe Store
A while back (well, last year sometime), my niece made an offhand comment on Facebook about her son wanting to take a trip to the giraffe store to buy some bubbles. This casual comment set my wheels turning, and I immediately sat down and wrote a story about a literal animal store (in an alternate universe where things are similar but completely different) where little children would go with their parents to pick out their own giraffe or zebra, etc. (Kind of as a rite of passage, if you will.) Of course, as it turned out, my little nephew was talking about going to Toys R Us to buy his bubble soap.
It just goes to show how my mind operates.
